Daily tours are available to visit the original Hobbiton village from The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.

Your tour starts at the Matamata i-SITE, with a drive through a picturesque 1,250 acre working sheep farm (there are 13,000 sheep and 300 beef cattle on the property) with spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges.

The Hobbiton movie set has been returned to its natural state, however hobbit holes and some structures from the film set are still present.

Your guide will escort you through the twelve acre site recounting fascinating details of how the Hobbiton Movie set was created - The Hobbit holes, Green Dragon™ Inn, Mill and other structures created for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films can be viewed and you will see how this beautiful piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into The Shire from Middle-Earth.

Upon completion of your tour you will return to The Shire's Rest and then transferred back to the Matamata i-SITE.
